Post-Adoption Support
(China & Other Asian Countries)
Parenting is challenging enough, think about the combination of that with (possibly) language barrier, cultural misunderstandings, biological differences, identity crisis, disorganized attachment, the list can go on…
As a Trust-Based Relational Intervention® practitioner, Karis approaches post adoption care from an attachment-based, trauma-informed perspective, designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. TBRI uses Empowering Principles to address physical needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors.
Having lived in Hong Kong for almost two decades and over a decade in U.S.A., Karis understands the two cultures very well with her first hand experiences. Additionally, having married to her wonderful husband, who was adopted from South Korea, it even broadened more of her horizon of the adoption journey from the perspectives of both the American adoptive parents and an adult Asian adoptee.
Clients with adopted children from China also found it helpful when their children could see a therapist who shares physical resemblance with them, while speaking with their own mother tongue (Mandarin Chinese or Cantonese Chinese). For parents who are struggling with serious language barrier with their adopted children of other languages, equine therapy is also available with Karis upon requests (The session will be charged additionally for the facilities with the horses).

Pre-Adoption Screening
Karis is certified to administer a great assessment for couples who are considering Adoption or foster care, called Prepare Enrich. This assessment has great feedback from case workers and many other adoption agencies nationally because it saves a lot of time throughout the screening process with a high validity (Percentage scores are based on comparisons with a norm group of over 50,000 couples.) Here’s a 3-minute video for your reference.
